Salt Lake County

Special Events

  • Family Night: Join us at a family night, to share a topic that is important to you and would resonate with our parents.  Or teach a craft or other activity during family night.  Gain a real sense of community at our engaging family nights.
  • Healthy Kids Day: Bring a group of friends (or come on your own), to a community event celebrating healthy lifestyles.  Assist with set up, signing people in, man booths, assist with activities, and help with tear down.  Our Healthy Kids Day typically brings together about 500 people in a festive atmosphere, during the spring time.  This year Healthy Kids Day event will be held on Saturday, April 26th in Taylorsville.   • DishED Event Volunteers 2014: Click to Volunteer. Our event this year is going to be our best yet! Volunteering at DishED is a great way not only to support our cause, but to  interact with distinguished community members and celebrities, sample delicious dishes, bid on silent auction items, and participate in the exciting opportunity drawing. We are looking for people to help out on Wednesday, October 22, 2014 from 11:00 am until 10:30 pm. 

Office and Administrative

  • Office Assistance:Connect with a fun group of people by helping with office duties such as filing, organizing, de-cluttering, etc.  This is the perfect opportunity for someone who wants to make a difference in a friendly office environment.
  • Data Entry:Do you have a special attention for detail?  Are you extremely accurate?  We are looking for help entering data into our database 4-6 hours per week.  The ideal person for this position is someone looking to share their accuracy skills.
  • Errands:Run errands for the Y.  Pick up supplies, post flyers, drop off something at a school site.  This is for the person who has their own transportation and likes to be out and about.
  • Events and Marketing Intern: The YMCA is looking for an Events and Marketing Intern to support the Annual DishED Gala. A great opportunity to get hands on experience with marketing, outreach and event planning skills. Please click here for full job posting.
  • Cleaning:Come clean for the YMCA!  We need help vacuuming, dusting,  making the restroom sparkle.  Perhaps cleaning your own home is too daunting.  Just an hour a week of your time cleaning will make all the difference at the Y.  If you prefer deep cleaning, we can set you up with that too!

Working with youth Ages 3-5

  • Reading-Early Childhood Program:Do you want to help young children develop in 30 minutes of your time listening, reading, skills, creativity, curiosity, imagination, among other wonderful skills for their lives? Come and volunteer as a reader in our Preschool Program between 9:00 am - 11:30 am Monday - Thursday or in our Kindergarten Academy betwee 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm, Monday - Thursday. 
  • Center Helper:Young children participate daily in learning centers. Volunteers can help children "play" while they learn important skills. Preschool Program between 9:00 am - 11:30 am Monday - Thursday or in our Kindergarten Academy between 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm, Monday - Thursday.
  • Lunch Helper:If you have or not Food handlers Permit come and volunteer in our busy lunch time! Children need your attention in our family style lunch. They can benefit of your conversation, cleaning, and help while eating. Monday - Thursday between 10:00 am - 12:30 pm.  
  • Tutoring:Some of our kids need extra one-on-one tutoring support.  Join our tutoring team and play a role in helping  these kids reach their full potential.  We have tutoring opportunities any time between 10:30 – 5:30.

Working with youth Ages 5-15

  • Homework Help: Join our staff in helping youth with their homework, weekdays between 3:00 – 4:00.  Our kids want to succeed in school, and with extra assistants helping with homework they are bound to succeed.  This is a fun way to get to know some amazing kids in kindergarten through ninth grade.
  • Reading Assistant: Do you love to read?  Share your passion by reading to kids, or letting them read to you.  Literacy is an important part of our Afterschool Programs and we welcome anyone who can join us in our efforts to grow strong readers.  Reading help is needed between 3:00-5:30pm.
  • Tutoring: Some of our kids need extra one-on-one tutoring support.  Join our tutoring team and play a role in helping  these kids reach their full potential.  We have tutoring opportunities any time between 10:30 – 5:30.
  • Physical Activities: Come play basketball with the kids!  Teach them to play ultimate Frisbee.  Jump rope.  Play catch.  Start up a soccer game, kickball, or even pickle ball!  Volunteer to help coach or referee in our sports league.  Get everybody moving and enjoy the kids at the same time!
  • Share your Special Talent: Come share your passion with our kids – cooking, dancing, sewing, animal care, sports, magic tricks, origami, science experiments, math games, you name it!   Our kids are eager to learn.
  • Field Trip  Assistance:We love to have volunteers join us on field trips.  Or perhaps you know  of a place that could host a field trip that you would like to share?  Perhaps you have a favorite hike you want to share, or you know someone who has a farm, or who is connected to another community group.  Help us plan fun, educational experiences for our youth.
  • Teach: Are you especially talented and experience in teaching?  Share your skill with the community.  We are often looking for people to teach English as a Second Language classes, Spanish language classes, nutrition, healthy cooking, financial literacy, tax preparation, etc.   This is a great way to share your talent.

Service Projects

Bring your group to help the YMCA in a number of ways:  painting, building, organizing, cleaning and more!

  • Collect Donations: We are always in need of fascinating books, arts and craft supplies, sports equipment, board games, and cooking supplies.  Arrange for a group you know of to collect donations on behalf of the Y and know you are making a lasting contribution.  Bonus:  You can come use the donations you have collected with the kids!

  • Reality Town: Run a business at our annual real world education event at a local junior high. Three opportunities for 5 hours each during the fall months. 
  • Healthy Kids Day: Bring a group of friends (or come on your own), to a community event celebrating healthy lifestyles.  Assist with set up, signing people in, man booths, assist with activities, and help with tear down.  Our Healthy Kids Day typically brings together about 500 people in a festive atmosphere, during the spring time. 
  • Family Night: Help put on a fun family night for our program families. Put together a presentation for the families or simply come help the staff with the event. Once every two months for 2 hours.

Office and Administrative Help

  • Office Assistant: Help out around the office; make copies, file documents, type documents, etc. Office hours are 8:30-5:00 pm Monday-Friday. 
  • Data Entry: Input grant required information into our databases. Office hours are 8:30-5:00pm Monday-Friday. 
  • Cleaning: Spend a morning or afternoon helping out our office staff by vacuuming, emptying the garbage, or organizing office space. Office hours are 8:30-5:00pm Monday-Friday.

After/Before-School Programs

  • Homework Assistant: Help students improve their grades. Work with a group of students on their homework; answering questions, listening to students read, and reviewing finished homework. Monday-Friday for 45 minutes; time varies by site.
  • Reading Assistant: Help students who are struggling with reading during homework time. Monday-Friday for 30-45 minutes. 
  • Physical Activities Instructor: Help our students be more active! Teach a healthy living lesson once a week for 30-45 minutes.
  • Club Leader: Encourage the youth to explore many interests and opportunities! Teach students about your passion in the form of a club once a week for 30-45 minutes.
  • Field Trip  Assistant: Join the program on a field trip. Help the staff keep students engaged in their learning experience and help them have fun. 1 ½ -2 hours once a month.

Community Engagement

  • Arrange for a Presentation: If you or someone you know has an area of expertise and would like to share with our students contact Ange Voraotsady at avoraotsady@ymcautah.org so we can arrange an opportunity.
  • Service Projects: Organize a service project for our youth to participate in so they can meet the minimum goal of 4 service projects per year. 
  • Collect Donations: Collect items for our organization or a specific site.
  • Events Assistance: The YMCA has a few different events that happen throughout the year that need volunteers to help make them successful. Contact Ange Voraotsady at avoraotsady@ymcautah.org for the upcoming events that could use your help.
